And how in the world does an artist paint using computer technology? Photoshop, the application that photographers use primarily to edit photographs, is a really powerful computer tool that gives one the ability to create incredible post production effects, that were once only available in the dark room... until recently .
Even though I, myself had used it for years as a photo retoucher, I was totally unaware that this program could actually be a serious medium for painting until fairly recently! In fact, as a new photo retoucher several years ago, I realize now that I had relatively little knowledge of how this vast program functioned and was completely unaware of its full potential. It wasn't until I was asked to illustrate a poetry book a few years ago, that I decided to give it a serious artistic attempt. I wanted to learn more, so I researched various online tutorials which gave me a much more in-depth understanding of it! As I began to practice and gain confidence, my creative experience has become life-changing!
The process consists of using my computer, a Wacom tablet and stylus. These tools allow the process to simulate traditional painting with the feel of a real pencil or paintbrush. The stylus tip is pressure-sensitive, providing precise control with unlimited brush capabilities! And the best part is...the color spectrum is absolutely unharnessed which for any artist, allows the sky to be the limit to their imagination!
